Traffic Citations and the 21-Day Deadline
Traffic citations issued in Mililani Mauka are filed with the First Circuit and processed through the Wahiawa District Court. Once you receive a citation, you have 21 calendar days to respond under HRS Chapter 291D. If you do not respond within 21 days, the court enters a default judgment against you. A default can result in a hold on your driver's license renewal or vehicle registration. Do not ignore a citation.
You have several ways to respond. Pay online at the eTraffic Hawaii portal, which accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. A processing fee applies. You can also pay by phone at (800) 679-5949. In-person payment is accepted at the Wahiawa District Court during counter hours. Mail payment with a check or money order payable to "District Court" to the Wahiawa courthouse. For citations that require a court appearance, you must appear in person. Paying by mail or online is not an option if your citation has a mandatory appearance requirement.
The Hawaii State Judiciary traffic cases page explains all payment methods and what to expect if you contest a citation. The types of violations page explains the difference between moving violations, equipment citations, and traffic crimes. Moving violations affect your driving record. Traffic crimes such as DUI require a court appearance and cannot be resolved by payment alone.
Traffic Abstracts for Mililani Mauka Drivers
A certified traffic abstract lists all alleged moving violations and convictions on your Hawaii driving record, along with any administrative license revocations. Under HRS Section 287-3, abstracts are available to drivers for a $20 fee. Insurance companies, employers, and government agencies commonly require them. You can get an abstract in person at the Wahiawa District Court during counter hours. Bring your full name, date of birth, and driver license number. Bring a valid photo ID as well.
Mail requests are also accepted. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope and a money order or cashier's check for $20, made payable to "District Court," to the Wahiawa courthouse at 1034 Kilani Avenue, Wahiawa, HI 96786. Include your full name, date of birth, and driver license number. Allow time for processing and return mail.
A traffic court report is a more complete version of the abstract that includes parking and equipment citations. It costs $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page. This report is only available in person with a valid photo ID. It cannot be ordered by mail. The traffic abstracts page on the judiciary website explains the difference between the standard abstract and the full traffic court report, and lists where to obtain each one.
Online records through eCourt Kokua are not certified and cannot substitute for an official abstract. If you need a document for insurance, licensing, or legal purposes, request the certified version from the courthouse directly.
Getting Copies of Court Records
Court document copies from eCourt Kokua cost $3 per document or $0.10 per page, whichever applies. Certified copies carry an additional $2 fee. For case files that are not available online, you can request copies at the Wahiawa District Court clerk's office during regular business hours. In-person inspection of records is free during business hours under state public records law. Bring identification and know the case number or party name before you arrive to speed up the search.
